Newcastle has always been  a busy branch. Among its diverse achievements are;

  • Publishing  the Long Hills of Mourne book and accompanying CD in 2002
  • Staging numerous county fleadhanna and very successful Fleadhanna Uladh in 1997, 1998, 2008, 2009 and 2010
  • We have been core participants in the annual Celtic Fusion festival since 2004
  • Dozens of our young members have successfully taken the
    jointly-awarded Comhaltas/Royal Irish Academy music
  • We ran the Fleadh Amhrán agus Rince annually for five
  • Musical trips and exchanges – some of the most memorable
    were Tubbercurry Co Sligo, Chicago, Florida, Rouen France,
    Isle of Lewis, Schull, Co Cork, Dranouter, Belgium and
    hosting a visit by the Cluain Tairbh branch
  • Bringing expert tutors to deliver workshops throughout the
    1990s in conjunction with fleadhanna and other festivals
  • RTÉs Céilí House programme was recorded from our branch
    at the premises of Castlewellan GAA Club, BBC Blas Ceoil in
  • Branch membership has grown steadily and stands at 426 in
