Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, which was formed in 1951, is the largest group involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music worldwide. It is a non-profit making organisation and its HeadQuarters Culturlann na hEireann is based in dublin, it also has regional resource centres throughout the provinces. Through these centres you can access the magnificent archives of traditional music that have been collected over the years.

As a cultural organisation Comhaltas not only promotes traditional Irish music but also song, dance and the irish language. Irish traditional culture has become increasingly popular in recent years and it is through a healthy network of branches at home and abroad that we mantain a close link with other guardians of irish culture.

” Tir gan teanga, tir gan anam”. A country without a language is a country without a soul. One of the objectives of Comhaltas is to foster and promote our native language. We encourage the use of Irish at all our activities and appreciate the efforts of others to do likewise. “Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste na Bearla Cliste”, broken Irish is better than clever English.
